Fishing Report - Week Ending 25 July 2010

Fishing over the last week has been a bit patchy, with the only sardine activity being in and around the Durban areas where extensive netting took place. Reports received are that this is probably the most activity seen in this area over the last 30 years. The South Coast area has been extremely quiet with no reports of netting nor sardine activity.

Along the South Coast, the bulk of the catches made are still small shad, with a couple of Garrick coming out on the live baits. A couple of good sized Kob have been taken on Rapala by the "Die Hards" that are prepared to brave the winter chill at night.

The Winkelspruit, Illovo and Toti areas have been producing excellent catches of Garrick and has probably been the most consisitent area over the last week.

From the boats, some good sized Tuna have been boated off Protea but the big problem is still the abundance of Sharks.

Fish Of The Week!!!!!!!!!!!!

Skipper Johan, fishing off his boat "Fish On"  took his charters some 40km out to sea on Wednesday and was rewarded with a 44.3kg Tuna and apperantly lost an even bigger fish. This is a great fish for our area and is probably one of the bigger Tuna brought to the scales in this area for a long time. (photo will be supplied as soon as available)

The Shelly Beach Ski-boat Club hosted their Inter-Club competition this week-end with some nice sized Tuna being boated on the 10kg tackle. Unfortunaley today was a blow out with a stronger than forecast South Westerly wind coming through stronger than forecasted. Skipper Mike Schneider on his boat "Must Byt" was top skipper with his team from Richards Bay, second was the team from Nomads fishing aboard "Billy Jude"and third was  the Mapelane team fishing aboard "Father Time" skippered by Henry Oosthuizen. Again a lot of good quality fish were wasted to sharks.

Mike Lang produced another good sized Amberjack off the Hibberdene area on Saturday and some Geelbeck were also reported off the Port Edward area.

Until next week, tight lines and keep those reports and photos flowing.
